There are lots of solutions for complementing the action of treatments and taking care of your scalp, including masks, lotions and hair care products.
Summary
If you have dandruff, it is important to understand it is a sign sent by your scalp to indicate it is not in good health.
Whether dry or oily, the amount of sebum secreted on the scalp’s surface has been modified (too much or too little), giving certain saprophytic microorganisms the possibility to proliferate. Dandruff then develops as a result of this local imbalance, which accelerates cell renewal and causes cells to accumulate on the surface.
Use of an anti-dandruff shampoo remains the first-line treatment.
But there are also other solutions for fighting dandruff, or rather for taking care of your scalp, including anti-dandruff masks and lotions.
Anti-dandruff masks are applied to the entire scalp and left on for a certain time (30 minutes, 1 hour, etc.) before being rinsed off with a mild shampoo. The masks recommended for oily dandruff found in hair generally include clay-based masks. Clay is well-known for its purifying and cleansing properties, so it can be very useful in case of oily dandruff. It can be mixed with water, and sometimes essential oils, and applied to damp hair.
Masks can be included as a complementary treatment as part of a dandruff management regime. Whether you prefer traditional or natural products, there is something for everyone. But you must always ask your pharmacist or dermatologist for advice, because natural and home-made do not always go hand in hand with safety and benefits.
