Almost 40% of the population has oily hair, which is caused by an imbalance in the sebaceous glands which secrete sebum (an oily, natural substance that keeps the hair lubricated and protected against external aggressors). This imbalance results in greasy, heavy hair that is difficult to style. Sebum secretion depends on androgen hormones such as testosterone. Hyperseborrhea is very often a genetic condition but can be worsened by other factors (stress, pollution etc.). Specific hair care products, adapted to this hair type, contain active ingredients that can regulate excess sebum production.
