Summary

Dandruff and dryness

A dry scalp and dandruff are two closely related phenomena.When the scalp is dry, the symptoms are the same as those for the skin on the rest of the body: it feels tight, itchy, redness appears and the skin flakes. These scales that come away from the skin are simply epidermal skin cells, and so are like dandruff.

Dry scalp and dandruff: a vicious circle

When the scalp is dry, it itches. Scratching also accelerates cell renewal, thus maintaining the development of dandruff, the scalp becomes more irritated, and a phenomenon of local inflammation causes increasingly severe and frequent itching. It really is a vicious circle.

Treating a dry scalp with dandruff

Whether you have a dry scalp, an irritated scalp or an itchy scalp with dandruff, the treatment consists of:

  • On the one hand, treating the damaged scalp by moisturising it to repair it and reduce irritation;
  • And on the other hand, acting by fighting the formation of dandruff with targeted active ingredients: keratolytic active ingredients to eliminate scales, and sometimes antifungal active ingredients to fight certain yeasts involved in the formation of dandruff.

A dry scalp can therefore lead to a phenomenon of desquamation and hence a simple dandruff condition. If you have dandruff with oily hair, it is also very important to take care of your scalp, because dandruff can ultimately weaken the scalp, suffocate it, destabilise the ecosystem living there and the scalp may become more and more fragile. You have dandruff and a dry scalp? Opt for anti-dandruff shampoos with a gentle soap-free cleansing base and a physiological pH the same as the skin, to gently wash and respect your scalp. Do not hesitate to ask your pharmacist for advice and to help you choose the best treatment.
