Pierre Fabre evaluated by Ecocert Environnement (ECOCERT 26000)

The Pierre Fabre Group has entrusted the independent organization ECOCERT Environnement with evaluating its CSR approach according to the ISO 26000 standard for sustainable development.

From this initial evaluation, the company obtained the level of Excellence - corresponding to the highest level of maturity of the ECOCERT 26000 standard - with a rating of 77%. No international company of Pierre Fabre's size had previously been assessed by ECOCERT according to this standard.

In order to get the most out of its evaluation, 150 audits were carried out in France and around the world, including 55 Pierre Fabre employees selected at random and a panel of 8 external stakeholders. With regard to the 7 core areas of ISO 26000, the independent assessment body found many strengths and indicated opportunities for improvement.

Some of the Pierre Fabre Group’s strengths revealed by ECOCET Environnement:

  • The founder’s original vision, “ care for people, health and the environment ”, his values based on respect for the company's stakeholders, are as strong as ever; for ECOCERT Environnement, they constitute " the basis for a truly transparent and ethical CSR approach ";
  • The fact that a majority of the members belong to a public utility foundation, together with a particularly dynamic employee shareholding scheme (85% of employees are shareholders), allows the Pierre Fabre Group to pursue its activities in the long term;
  • The group is committed to all aspects of sustainability, it is at the forefront of research and innovation (oncology, dermatology, dermo-cosmetics, etc.) and demonstrates a desire to be exemplary in terms of environmental quality and working conditions;
  • Having roots in southwest France, particularly in the Tarn region, contributes to the creation of sustainable value in a largely isolated area as well as to theexport of the savoir-faire of this region to the rest of the world.

Following the audit carried out by ECOCERT Environnement:

Several areas for progress will guide the company’s CSR program over the next 3 years:

  • Make information about the group's CSR objectives and commitments, brands and products more easily accessible to consumers;
  • Offer a more complete view of the Group’s specific CSR challenges; develop and make available methodological guidelines for each of the company's businesses;
  • Support the group's partners in structuring their own systematic CSR program.

In a world saturated with "green" information, it is important to provide evidence of commitments to consumers and stakeholders. The transparency initiative that we have undertaken with ECOCERT Environnement is primarily a response to this requirement, and few companies of our size do this. In addition, it will enable us to pursue our continuous improvement approach by working on the areas for improvement identified between now and the next evaluation scheduled for 2022.

  • 100% of new products are eco-designed from 2019;
  • 80% of new plant extracts organic or sustainably farmed (without phytosanitary treatment) by 2021;
  • A 30% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2025;
  • A 25% reduction in energy consumption by 2025.
